The International Experience

The future of business is global. Babson is a leader in educating managers for the new global realities. Babson's core curriculum-whether in the Two-Year, One-Year, Fast Track, or Evening MBA-includes cases that present important global issues. MBA students can choose electives with an international focus. And they can take part in programs abroad administered by Babson's Office of International Programs (OIP) or in activities sponsored by the William F. Glavin Center for Global Management.

Global Management Program
Since 1979, the Global Management Program has given MBA students the chance to work as project managers and consultants with more than 250 companies operating in 40 countries. Companies participate in the program because they recognize that Babson MBA students provide high-quality, cost-effective services that help meet their corporate needs.

Each summer, the program places 10-20 MBA students overseas. Participating students work for 10- to 12-week periods on complex problems that face their sponsoring companies. At the project's end, the participants present their findings and recommendations to senior management. Sponsor companies thus obtain valuable consulting services, while MBA students broaden their professional experience, improve their language skills, and deepen their understanding of global management issues. The sponsoring company provides funds for round-trip air travel, housing, and a living stipend.

This program is application-based and is available to full-time MBA students and full-time Evening MBA students who have completed 30 credit hours. The selection process begins in October, and selections are made and projects are assigned between January and April. During the spring, participants prepare for their assignments under faculty supervision. Proficiency in a second language, while not a requirement for many assignments, is regarded as an asset.

Global Management Concentration
Babson MBAs also may pursue the Global Management Concentration by combining the required course work and experiential component broadening their understanding of global management. This concentration allows students interested in internationally active firms to achieve depth in a skill area, such as marketing or finance, while acquiring a global mind-set.
